Reasons to Visit Whitby this Winter

Whitby Pavilion is just one of the locations for events happening in and around Whitby and the North Yorkshire Coast this Winter.
- Fossil Hunting Trips at Natural Wonders - a chance to discover Whitby's fossil coast.
-
Whitby Museum - The museum houses artifacts from around the world, many of which have links to the South Seas and Jurassic Gardens.
- Whitby Folk Club at Whitby Friendship Rowing Club -
The Friendship being a private club, folk club patrons to stay within the law have to become social members of the Rowing Club. Seeing that the fee is only £1 a year (usually payable on your first visit) no one complains as the prices of drinks are noticeably less than all the local hostelries.
Club Nights are run in two parts every Thursday.
Part1 from 8 - 9pm: an ‘early bird’ practice/worksop session where members bring along any instrument, and exchange advice with mutual support from other musicians.
Part2 from 9 - 11-30pm is the Folk Club which is run in a sing/play-a-round format where everyone is encouraged to contribute, and of course ‘show off’ their new skills, or even accompany the more adventuress singers
Whitby Museum Talk - Whitby Strand - Wednesday, 25 January, 2012 Starts at 14:15. Talks at 2.15 pm on the fourth Wednesday in every month in the Normanby Room, primarily for members of the Literary and Philosophical Society. However, non-members are welcome on payment of £1.00
- Pannett Art Gallery has permanent collections featuring the Staithes Group of artists and their associates, and the work of George Weatherill and his children. There are temporary displays by local and national artists which change regularly. The art gallery is free to the public.
- The Turnstone Gallery is situated in the coastal village of Sandsend, 3 miles up the coast from Whitby. Parking is available nearby and the gallery has disabled access. Open Thursday to Sunday inclusive 11am - 4.30pm
- The Original Ghost Walks - every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday at 8pm
- Whitby Glass - See the skilled assistants, continuing a tradition started by Mr Peter Rantell in 1958, at the workbench, drawing, bending, and fashioning coloured glass into the firm's speciality, the Whitby Lucky Duck, in colours corresponding to the gem stones associated with each month's birthdays.
- Whitby Jet Heritage Centre - An original 1867 jet works with working craftsmen, restoration work, reproduction pieces, plus wide range of interesting and contemporary jewellery in genuine Whitby Jet. Watch the craftsmen at work creating small beautiful items; netsuke, Faberge eggs, carved gems and such like. Guided tours are available with a 15 minute pre- recorded audio tape.
- Ebor Jet Works - the Ebor Jetworks now have a permanent home at 138 Church Street in Whitby. From this new base we produce handcrafted, good quality and most importantly, interesting jewellery using only the best quality Whitby Jet collected from the beaches around Whitby. Not only do we polish all the stones ourselves but we also design and make our unique collections of Sterling Silver and 9ct Gold settings.
